Atlantic/Swan SongLed Zeppelin will mark their 50th anniversary later this year with a series of special releases and events, but in advance of the celebration, the rock legends will continue their reissue campaign by putting out remastered editions of their archival live album How the West Was Won on March 23.
Originally released in 2003, How the West Was Won features performances from a pair of California concerts Led Zeppelin played at the Los Angeles Forum and Long Beach Arena, respectively, on June 25 and June 27, 1972. The album reached #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified platinum in the U.S.
The reissue will be available as a three-CD set, a four-LP 180-gram vinyl package, and a Blu-ray Audio edition featuring multiple high-res mixes, as well as a digital download and via streaming services. There will also be a deluxe How the West Was Won box set that’ll include the CDs and LPs; a DVD Audio version of the album containing multiple mixes and a photo gallery; a download card featuring a high-res stereo mix of the record; a book boasting rare photos, memorabilia and more; and a high-quality print of the album’s original cover.
Among the many highlights of How the West Was Won are an epic, 25-minute-plus version of “Dazed and Confused,” and a long medley built around “Whole Lotta Love.”
Led Zeppelin is planning to launch its anniversary celebrations in September, 50 years after the band played its first concert — under the name “The New Yardbirds” — in Gladsaxe, Denmark.
