Daniel Boczarski/RedfernsOne of metal’s most iconic bands, Slayer, has shocked fans with an announcement Monday that it will “make its exit” after one final world tour.
While dates have not been announced yet, a video posted on the band’s official YouTube channel declares, “The end of days is near…Slayer to make its exit with one final world tour.” The clip shows various tour posters and promo pictures throughout the years before ending with, “Slayer’s final North American tour dates coming…”
Slayer formed in 1981 and helped pioneer thrash metal with epic albums like 1986’s Reign in Blood and 1988’s South of Heaven, among others.
In early 2013, original drummer Dave Lombardo parted ways with the band. Only a couple months later, founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed away. Since then, founding members Kerry King (guitar) and Tom Araya (lead vocals, bass) have been touring with guitarist Gary Holt and drummer Paul Bostaph.
Though the tour dates haven’t been revealed, rumors suggest Slayer will trek across North America this summer with Lamb of God, Anthrax, Testament and Behemoth.
