Pedestrian Struck By Train In Danielson
(Danielson, CT) — A pedestrian is seriously injured after being struck by a train in Danielson. The person was struck by a freight train last night south of the Franklin Street railroad crossing. After a brief search the victim was located near the tracks with serious injuries. The unidentified person was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Molester Sentenced
A Lisbon man began serving a 10-year prison term Thursday for sexually assaulting five underage girls between 2003 and 2010 at his former home in Lisbon. Douglas Crossley Jr.’s wife and three young daughters begged the court for leniency during the sentencing hearing for the 41-year-old former mortgage broker and soccer coach. Crossley claimed he is falsely accused but turned down an offer to plead guilty in exchange for six months in prison, five years of probation and registration as a sex offender. At sentencing, he faced a maximum prison sentence of 100 years.
Restaurant Approved
The New London Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously Thursday to approve a plan by Spark Makerspace to further develop its commercial kitchen space at 86 Golden St., use a portion of an outdoor welding space for dining, and open up to the public for regular restaurant hours. Spark plans to apply for a liquor license and offer occasional acoustic music in the outdoor seating area. The training experience of those involved is the primary focus rather than revenue from the food service. The new space will provide training opportunities for aspiring restaurateurs and entrepreneurs and allow them to be in a program where they have the chance to start and run a restaurant.
Bridge To Be Replaced
On October 12th, Norwich residents will hear the state Department of Transportation’s plan to replace a 104-year-old bridge on Route 97 over Cold Brook near the Sprague town line. The public informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Norwich City Hall, although work on the bridge is not slated to be done until spring of 2020. State officials said the bridge, 12 feet long and 37 feet wide, must be replaced as a result of a recent inspection that found the bridge to be in “serious condition.” During construction, the bridge will be closed in both directions for nine weeks, and alternating one-way traffic may be required for additional time both before and after the closure.
Fly-In Today
A two day “fly-in” event beginning today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Groton-New London Airport will have more than 500 aircraft and several thousand visitors. The show is for aircraft enthusiasts, but it also will provide the local community with an opportunity to showcase its airport and the offerings in the region. The show is open to public today and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
