HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – The National Weather Service says the city of Hartford hit a record high temperature of 89 degrees today. Wednesday’s temperature at Bradley International Airport breaks the old record of 88 degrees previously set in 1998. The weather service says Boston tied its record high temperature- 86 degrees – at 3:15 p.m. The record was last met in 1998. Cooler temperatures are expected Thursday in Boston and Hartford. In Providence, Rhode Island, the National Weather Service recorded the temperature at 83 degrees just before 4 p.m. The city’s record is 92 degrees.
CMEEC RATEPAYER COMMITTEE TO BE NAMED
Norwich aldermen are scheduled to name Monday night a three-person committee to recommend a ratepayer representative to the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative. New state rules that take effect October 1st in the wake of the Derbygate controversy put more strict regulations on CMEEC and similar organizations. One of those new requirements is a ratepayer rep to the CMEEC board from each of its member utilities. The City Council resolution names aldermen Peter Nystrom, Tucker Braddock, and Stacey Gould to the recommendation committee. The CMEEC ratepayer representative can’t be an employee of CMEEC, the city of Norwich, or its public utilities.
KEEPING PRIDE ALIVE
Over two years ago, a local drug-prevention group was formed in response to the opioid problem in southeastern Connecticut. Since then, Griswold Pride program coordinator Miranda Nagle says her coalition has done some great things, but the federal grant that’s funded her position expires this week. That’s why a Call to Action meeting is being held Thursday night in Griswold. Nagle says she wants to form an action plan to make sure Griswold Pride can continue its work without a paid coordinator. She’ll be giving a presentation about the coalition and its various initiatives starting at 6:00 PM at Griswold Town Hall.

EXETER, N.H. (AP) – Police say a 17-year-old New Hampshire prep school student who was hospitalized for dehydration and then vanished had traveled out of state and was located safe in Connecticut. Police say Phillips Exeter Academy junior Jed Breen was last seen leaving Exeter Hospital a little after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Breen’s family said in a statement Wednesday morning that he had been discharged from a hospital and was severely disoriented. Breen’s uncle told WBZ-TV that Breen went for a run and fell unconscious Tuesday, leading to his hospitalization. Exeter Police Chief William Shupe says Breen was found in Hartford, Connecticut, on Wednesday afternoon. It wasn’t immediately clear why he was there, but Shupe says no foul play was involved. Shupe says Breen was found after sending emails to his family.
MAN SENTENCED FOR CRUSHING RABBIT
TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) – A Connecticut man charged with crushing his sister’s pet rabbit to death has been sentenced to a special form of probation. 24-year-old Julien Torres was sentenced Tuesday to two years’ probation. Torres’ criminal record will be erased if he doesn’t commit any new crimes during that two-year period. Torres had been charged with maliciously wounding or killing an animal. Police say the Torrington man was upset with his sister for not allowing him to use her phone when he attacked her rabbit in February. The rabbit, named Peter Griffin, died from severe internal injuries and bleeding. An attorney for Torres says both his client and his client’s sister suffer from mental illnesses. Torres will undergo mental health treatment as a condition of his probation.
