NL DEAD BODY ID
New London police are investigating the discovery of a dead man over the weekend. 30-year old city resident Christopher Coons was found in a porta-potty in McDonald Park at Connecticut Avenue and McDonald Street around 8:30 Saturday morning. Police say there are no signs of trauma to the body or anything suspicious about the death. An autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death.
HE BITES!!!
A Hampton man is in hot water after getting into a car accident on Main Street in Griswold. Police say 24-year-old Wesley Palmiero was drunk when he crashed his car around 9:00 Sunday night. After being arrested, police say Palmiero repeatedly tried to bite the trooper who was driving him to the station. Officers say they couldn’t even process Palmiero because he was so drunk. He’s being held on 50-thousand dollars bond. A court appearance is scheduled for June 27th.

We report many times about drivers who are charged with speeding. One local woman was charged recently with driving too slow. State police say 56-year old Leigh Meredith was clocked doing 25 miles per hour last Thursday night around 9 PM while traveling southbound over the Baldwin Bridge between Old Lyme and Old Saybrook. Meredith was stopped as she took exit 1 off Route 9. She was charged with driving under the influence, as well as driving too slow, and failing to stay in the proper lane. She’s due in court June 27th.
SCHOONER RESCUE UPDATE
MYSTIC, Conn. (AP) – The Coast Guard has rescued 15 children among other passengers from a schooner that ran aground off Connecticut. The 126-foot schooner Alabama had 15 children, two adult chaperones and five crew members aboard when it ran aground near the mouth of the Mystic River at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday. A New London-based Coast Guard crew transferred the passengers to the Noank Shipyard in Groton. No injuries were reported. The cause of the accident is under investigation. Investigators are scheduled to determine the integrity of the vessel prior to the vessel operating again. The Alabama’s home port is Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts. Built in 1926, it now offers recreational cruises and is operated by Black Dog Tall Ships.
TOP PROSECUTOR REAPPOINTED
Eight more years for New London State’s Attorney Michael Regan. The region’s top prosecutor was reappointed to the job for another term by the State Criminal Justice Commission. He’s been in the job since 2006, when Kevin Kane moved on to be the chief state’s attorney. Regan oversees 24 full-time and one part-time employee in the New London Superior Courthouses, Norwich Superior Court, and the Waterford Juvenile Court.

Megyn Kelly’s interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was seen by 3.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen. Much criticized ahead of time, the report filled roughly one-third of NBC’s hour-long “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly,” whose audience was dwarfed by CBS rival “60 Minutes,” which drew 5.3 million viewers. Jones, among other claims, has called the 2012 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, a hoax. Members of that community, where 20 children and six educators were killed, were among the voices raised against NBC airing the interview. NBC Connecticut Channel 30 didn’t carry the program. During the interview, Jones never gave a direct answer when Kelly pressed him to admit he was wrong in his claim about the shootings. Kelly drew 6.2 million viewers to her interview of Vladimir Putin during her show’s June 4 debut.
