Lobbyists Spend Big In Connecticut
(Hartford, CT) — Gambling and energy interests are this year’s biggest spenders on lobbying of the Connecticut Legislature. The Office of State Ethics says close to three-million-dollars was spent lobbying on the casino issue alone. More than two-million-dollars was spent on energy related issues. Most was used towards a bill that sought to open more energy markets to the Millstone Power Station in Waterford.
CT Sailor Dies In Fitzgerald Crash
(Oakville, CT) — One of the seven U.S. Navy sailors killed in a crash of the USS Fitzgerald is being identified as a Connecticut native. Sonar Technician Third Class Ngoc Truong Huynh was from the Oakville section of Watertown. Huynh is one of seven sailors who were reported missing after the USS Fitzgerald collided with a merchant vessel in the waters off Japan yesterday. The bodies were found by divers searching flooded compartments of the USS Fitzgerald.
Traveler’s Championship Opens Today
(Cromwell, CT) — The week of activities leading up to the PGA Travelers Championship begins today in Cromwell. Opening ceremonies are being held for the pro golf event this morning at the Tournament Players Club at River Highlands. Governor Dannel Malloy will be among the dignitaries on hand for today’s festivities. The celebrity pro-am is being held on Wednesday, with the tournament being held Thursday through Sunday.
Schooner Runs Aground In Mystic River
(New London, CT) — More than a dozen passengers are safe after a schooner ran around at the mouth of the Mystic River. The 126-foot schooner Alabama ran aground near where the river meets the Long Island sound last night. No injuries or pollution are reported from the crash. The 17 passengers on the ship were taken by the Coast Guard to a shipyard in Groton.
