NL Housing Chief Fired

The head of the New London Housing Authority says she’s been fired. Executive Director Sue Shontell says she was notified by phone Monday night by the attorney from the authority’s Board of Commissioners that her contract was being terminated. The firing occurs as a controversy continues regarding the substandard living conditions at the Thames River Apartments, and a discrimination complaint filed by Shontell with the state claiming harassment and interference by the mayor and the Housing board. The panel held a closed door meeting Monday night to discuss what the agenda said was a pending legal claim.
