I am forced to listen to your radio station at work in New London because there arent any other stations that come in. Do you play the same tape every single day? I have never heard such a repetitive station in my life, seriously its like a trained monkey is running the show.

Hi uh,WH. Well I'm the guy, the "trained monkey" in the studio. Thanks for the post WH. And... actually we don't use tapes anymore. Most folks would want to blast away at a post like that but....we're different. I'm so glad you enjoy the same songs we play over and over and over and over again. Thanks for listening for so long WH. Take Care,

Hi Bill, Thanks for the post. The tune you heard was a classic from Leon Russell called "A Song For You". You can find it on his self titled album "Leon Russell" released in 1970. Glad you like it Bill. Best, Chris Dillon/Sound Morning Drive.

On Saturday March 8, there was a song that I heard on your radio station. It was played just before you played U2's "Sweetest Thing". It was a male vocalist accompanied by piano. Is there anyway you can trace back to the playlist and tell me who the artist is and the name of the song? It's a beautiful song and I would very much like to have the name so I can purchase it. Thank you, Bill Ballato

Welcome back to the area and I hope you enjoy the station. We do what we can to appeal to as many people as we can. Chris: Let me just say I am pleased that the call letters WNLC still mean something.... As a kid (SBHS-Class of 74) my dad was forever giving me heck because I switched his dial in the car to 77 ABC in NY (thats another message) or KBW 1520 Buffalo (Jack Armstrong rocks) Now you say that no record company tells you what to play and you dont look at the charts a cut & paste of your own comments from another blog.... (Old" isn't how we define "classic". No record company tells us what to play and we don't looks at "the charts". We listen to music and play what we think are the best tunes by familiar artists that lots of folks can enjoy.) Let me tell you how I found you and why I am writing....I recently moved back to the area after about 25 years & I was switching back & forth from talk to Kool and last evening I tuned in from 10pm till 1am and was intrigued with what I heard and how it was delivered....reminds me a bit of the old KNX-FM 93.1 in LA same great vibe....however this is what has moved me to write this epistle....Ramblin Man (Allman Brothers) somewhere after midnight & then what did I hear this am after 7am, the same cut.... I was not pleased.....great tune but not twice in 8 hours.... As I listen now, this is what I would like to hear and I challenge you to give these cuts a chance...I promise to keep you on all day today, tonight & tomorrow, heck it's flippin cold and it's going to snow.. so I'll just be hanging out working on my projects and listening.... (I'm the kind of guy who when I went to my friends pads late at night and when they couldn't make it to the player to change albums...your's truly kept the groove working...) I humbly offer these suggestions: 25 to start.... CSNY-Neil Young----Country Girl Todd Rundgren---We gotta get you a Woman Trisha Yearwood/Don Henly-Walkaway Joe New Radicals-You only get what you Give Rolling Stones-Dave Matthews-Your Just a Memory Beach Boys-Feel Flows Rick Nelson-Gimme a Little Sign Girl Gin Blossoms-Till I hear from You Tears For Fears-Everyone Wants to Rule the World Bare Naked Ladies-Brian Wilson YES-Roundabout Pure Prairie League-Amie-Falling in & Out of Love Eddie Money-Shakin Bob Welch-Ebony Eyes Raspberries-Hit Record Quarterflash-Harden My Heart Ozark Mountain Daredevils-Jackie Blue Johnny Rivers-By the Time I get to Phoenix Crosby & Nash-Immigration Man Michael Martin Murphy-WildFire Elton John-Funeral for a Friend Billy Joel-Downeaster Alexa Brian Wilson-Love & Mercy Derek & The Dominos-Why Does Love have to be so Sad? Hey Guys, I tune to you because I have to listen to 1065 at work all afternoon but this morning you were playing a bunch of the same songs like Hall & Oates, Huey Lewis and KT Tunsal. What's classic about Horse & Cherry Tree? Quit the pablum and play some songs that really are classic hits or some of the deep tracks you used to play.

**** Hey Todd, thanks for tuning in and we appreciate the post. At WNLC it doesn't have to be 30, 20 or even 10 or five years old to be a classic. "Old" isn't how we define "classic". No record company tells us what to play and we don't looks at "the charts". We listen to music and play what we think are the best tunes by familiar artists that lots of folks can enjoy. It's true that you may hear some of the same tunes on both stations. Hey, it's great music right? But, when you need some Cream, the Marshal Tucker Band, Little Feat or you want to hear "The Apartment Song" by Tom Petty with less chit chat you know where go right? I hope you give us another listen and let us know what you'd like to hear. You can post it right here. Thanks again Todd. Have a nice weekend man. Chris Dillon PD/mornings

Good morning. Have you ever heard of a song Phycotic Reaction by a band from San Jose in the mid 60's called Count Five. Great rock tune with a great harmonica sound. They were your typical one hit band. Just thought I ask. How about playing Pride & Joy from my favorite Stevie Ray Vaughn. As Stevie said, WNLC HOUSE IS A ROCKIN! Thanks.

Hey, Chris! I'm off work today (Joe's birthday, by the way!) and I looked up your message board. Imagine my surprise to find the TIVO Helpline! I, too, have lost those I'll-watch-it-tomorrow episodes to the freeze. Note that that never happened during the VCR years. And when I was howling in frustration, whose name was on my lips? Hey WNLC thanks for the tunes I am liking the format with the exception that sometimes it gets a bit "teeny bopper" but then again maybe it is that you trying to appeal to a broad base. Just promise NO RAP or HIP-HOP or whatever name they're calling it this week! Rock ON !!!! P.S. some McCartney and Wings would be nice.

HEY TOM, THANKS FOR THE LINE. GLAD YOU LIKE IT AND WE PROMISE NO "HIP TO THE HOP"!!!!

Whatever you guys have been doing lately, keep it up. Your station is a breath of fresh air in the stale flatulence that is the SECT airwaves. It seems that recently, your format and playlist has been expanding like it did when you first changed format. Keep it up! Don't fall for the 'classic' rock pitfall and play the same artists and songs over and over and over like the other stations we can tune into down here..... Thanks!

Ok I want to thank "Chris", a listener who has discovered some interesting info. Below is the email he sent last night. Thanks Chris!

"Chris -
When I got home this evening, once again our Tivo box was frozen.
So I went online and did a Google search using the search expression tivo freezing.
And guess what? Over 41,000 hits.
Check out THIS LINK.
Then I called DirecTV. They admitted to the problem described in the above link. Seems the latest software patch (6.3e) has bugs that cause the freezing.
When I complained that their subscribers should be in some way compensated for the fact that our DVRs don't work right, they offered to take $5 off each monthly bill for the next three months and also gave us Showtime for three months effective immediately.

Seems to me that the more people who call and complain and the more $5/month credits they give out, the more likely that the next software release will be bug-free before they roll it out.

Anyway, i hope this information is of value (even if it's undoubtedly frustrating).
But the bottom line is that there's nothing wrong with your DVR. Regards, Chris."

Hey Chris, Thanks again!

Ok, Here is the latest Tivo update! Last night i reset and deleted everything (reformat). Gone was Grey's anatomy, Seinfeld, and my entire catalog of Menudo on Univision! I'm still going to need to set up the satellite this afternoon and we'll see. I'm by no means confident that this will correct the problem with the freezing and restarting during my favorite episodes of the Golden Girls and Dirty Jobs. I'm going to continue to take your feedback and press on with TivioGate '07. Together we can do something to restore normalcy to our family and living rooms. Feel free to post your Tivi stories here. I'll continue to add them to the board and print them out to send to Direct TV until we get justice. I NEED MY TIVO!

I'm not sure I follow you. Please let me know what songs are being cut off before completion and I'll make sure to look into it for you. If you're speaking about a songs length, yes indeed we play both long and short versions of songs. I hope this helps and keep in touch ok Mr. Ham. Glad you like the music. Thanks, Chris Dillon

Since you started your new format of music, it's been very enjoyable. However if you continue to cut the songs off before completion The folks in our home and in the car will have no other option but to go back to 106.5.

Well, about a year or so ago, while mourning the sudden, unannounced and unexplained disappearance of Chris Dillon and Sarah Owens from KOOL 101,I decided to switch from KOOL 101 (the morning drive show just wasn't the same without those two--I still laugh everytime I remember Chris singing his moped version of "Low Rider", and I haven't forgotten having to sing "Help me, Rhonda" accapella over the airwaves to Sarah and Chris in order to win some Beach Boys tickets last summer)to 98.7 WNLC on my car radio, looking forward to finding some Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole or Dean Martin to sing along to, and was totally flabbergasted to find first Chris Dillon and then Sarah Owens presiding over some very different nostaglia music. Boy, what a relief that was! I thought--well, never mind what I thought had happened to them--I was just very glad to hear that they both were alive and well and still on the airwaves. Admittedly I sometimes miss WLNC's old music format (swing and pop songs and instrumental music from the 30s, 40s, 50s, etc.)but it's good to listen to Chris and Sarah again--and besides much of the music they play now I first heard while in high school or later at art school and so instantly bring back pleasant memories of my "misspent & unrepentent youth". By the way, I'm very glad to hear Jethro Tull and the Indigo Girls (among other groups I enjoy) getting some needed air time--I just wish more of their music could be heard on WNLC--in particular, I'd love to hear the Indigo Girls' "Galileo", about the fallibilities inherent in believing in Karma and past life theories. It's a cute tune. I know I won't ever hear some of my most favorite Tull tunes on WNLC because (darn that Ian Andersen) the ones I really enjoy the most have what may be considered "questionable" lyrics (like the body part the winner grabs the all-time loser by in "Locomotive Breath") or cover subject matter (child molestation in "Aqualung" for instance) that prohibit free airplay, so I will have to content myself with what is already getting airplay on the station(like one of my favorites that's playing now: Robert Palmer, and also Paul Simon) and look forward to listening once more to Chris and Sarah while at work and during my drive into and from work each day. Long may they broadcast in Southeastern CT! You go guys!

First i want to thank Sarah for ansering my email so quickly and for her kind words. My 85 year old father is also a musian plying all kinds of guitars and singing all kinds of songs solo and with bands for the past 60 plus years. He is also a very brave man, just having a total knee replacement and is in rebilitation for it. A very young 85 he and my mother have been maried 61 years and they are not ready to slow down any. He was still working every day and plans to go back after recovery. Truly an inspiration to me I wondered if you could please play teach your children by crosby, stills, nash, and young as this is one of his favorite songs he still loves to sing and play. Thank you so much Bob Blair

Hi! I'm hoping you can post information on the open membership meeting of a local organization called Groton Animal Foundation, Inc. It will be held at the Groton Public Library on Tuesday, June 12th at 6:30 p.m. Attendees can meet GAF Boardmembers, learn more about GAF and their goals, and sign up for volunteer opportunities and memberships within GAF. Light refreshments will be served. Larry Hirsch with Stand Up for Animals will speak. This extraordinary organization's goal is to build a 10,000 sq. ft. animal shelter, adoption center and resource center. GAF and SUFA have common goals: "to create a place where animals will be treated with compassion and dignity..." Groton Animal Foundation looks forward to: meeting members who have joined during the past couple of months; accepting new memberships; soliciting volunteers and ideas for fundraising projects; in addition to taking pledges. GAF's nonprofit status is pending at this time. Please come and meet us! Our Boardmembers are looking forward to meeting you and discussing the importance of rebuilding our local Groton Animal Control Facility. We would also like to encourage our community to come out in support of the bonding ordinance (funding a new shelter in Groton)at the Town Council meeting held June 19th at the Town Annex. Thank you!

HEY WENDY, YOU JUST DID POST IT! NICE JOB. THIS IS THE PERFECT PLACE TO GO AND LET EVERYONE KNOW WHATS HAPPENING. I'VE POSTED THIS ON OUR EVENTS PAGE TOO. TAKE CARE AND BEST OF LUCK. -CHRIS DILLON

First, I’m listening to The Sound more and more often. Keep up the varied format. The only suggestion I could make is to play a few long or album versions, and live versions of songs that are available, and ones that have guest singers along with the original artist. Second, there is a local event that is happening on Memorial Day weekend that I would like to tell you about. It’s called AngelRide 2007. About 150 bicycle riders will participate in this two-day, 130-mile charity bicycle ride across the state of Connecticut. The ride begins at The Yale Summer School of Music in Norfolk, Connecticut on Saturday, traveling 80miles to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, Connecticut. On Sunday, riders continue on for a 50 mile journey from the Camp in Ashford to Mystic, Connecticut. 100% of the money raised by the riders will support the "Camp in a Suitcase" program, a hospital outreach program that entertains and supports children during their periods of hospitalization. I am riding in the 2007 AngelRide. The opportunity to participate in the AngelRide on behalf of the kids is both a privilege and an inspiration. Check out this link for more information, pictures and a video - www.angelcharitabletrust.org. If you want to make a donation, you can do so here – http://team.holeinthewallgang.org/site/TR?px=1014747&pg=personal&fr_id=1100&s_tafId=1350

Thanks for playing the 'new' Beatles Album. Even though I have already worn out the CD It is still nice to hear the cuts because that is all that is left of an era never to be repeated.

I think the "Love" CD is fantastic and I'm glad folks like to hear it on the radio. It's pure Beatles all the way and thats a Classic by any standard! Take Care -Chris

I just want to say that WNLC played an Appropriate Song choice (Fragile by Sting) to play after today's Moment of Silence. God Bless all of the students, victims and their families at V.T.

The events of April 16th are beyond any words we can express. Thanks for your comments, we thought long and hard about what song to play at Noon on Friday. We thought "Fragile" by Sting said it all. Thanks Lorraine.
God Bless.

First of all, I really like your station, especially since you play a lot of my favorite people like U2, The Police, Queen, Elvis Costello (who you don't hear too much on other stations anymore), a lot of great stuff, and not incessant replaying of top 40 and Michael Buble. Thank you. I have a request though. Could you please include the songs "All This Time" by Sting (looking forward to his reunion tour with The Police) and "Would I Lie to You?" by Eurythmics (another of my absolute, all-time favorite artists) in your music library? I love those songs, and it would make my day to hear them on your station once in a while during my work day. Hopefully other listeners like those songs too. Personally, you couldn't have too much of either Sting or Eurythmics :) Thanks guys. And keep up the great work. Joe

No, thank you Joe. I too am a big Sting fan and as such do play All This Time quite often. We'll look into the Eurythmics for ya! It has been a while since "we lied to ya"! Thanks for the great comments! Take Care

Hi people!!! I had some odd ideas to throw out to you: What about a particular time slot for "request & dedications".....or even something more risque, like showcasing the work of local bands once in a while....a cut from a CD or two might spice things up!

Dear Scruffy Bass, we're looking into some options for doing just that. There are some great local bands nad we're mulling over some options for spotlighting local bands here on WNLC. Thanks for the suggestion! Stay scruffy!!!

Hi Guys - Just wanted to say i really like your station, there really is a wide variety of music. Good job!!! After reading some previous postings, i also have to agree sometimes you do favor certain artists, and play them again within an hour. Also some songs i notice are the shortened versions, such as Bob Segars "Night Moves",with a whole verse missing from the song. Also, some songs you cut short, we want to hear the whole song!!! Anyway, thanks for a great choice and keep on ROCKIN!!!

Not every radio station can please all of the people all of the time, but Chris & Sarah sure do try their best to do just that. I have called in and requested songs and had them played within minutes. So those of you that want to keep posting complaints about the music library - get over it and give WNLC DJ's a break or change the station. There are enough loyal listeners without you!

Hey Chris, I listen to the station quite a bit. I am hearing more of the same pablum like other stations in NL or Hartford play like Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Melloncamp, Phil Collins. Its the same 40 songs. I thought you guys had a big library. How about some deeper tracks like I hear on XM? More Van Morrison, G Dead, Springsteen, Joe Cocker, Patti Smith, Alan Parsons, Jessie Colin Young, Leon Russell, etc. Cool. TIA

What ever happened to that "largest music library..." you kept talking about when you first came on the air? With over 40 years of music to choose from you keep rehashing the same old boring garbage over and over and over, day in and day out. Well Gale, I am a card carrying member of NetFlix. Lets see. In the interest of humor I think I'll recommend the Jennifer Aniston flick (yes, that Jennifer Aniston from Friends.)where she goes on the run from a boozing, pint-sized killer in Leprechaun (1993). If that's checked out, there's always Leprechaun 2 (1994), Leprechaun 3 (1995), Leprechaun 4 in Space (1996), and of course the urban updates, Leprechaun in the Hood (2000) and its esteemed sequel Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood (2003).
What a great question Gale, I'll come up will some more and post'em here. Feel free to post your own St. Patty's Day movies here.Thanks-Chris

Great music - my brother lives in Grorton and I live in Christchurch Dorset, United Kingdom. Your webcast makes me feel closer to my brother who told me about your station which he has on during most days. One day I might phone in a request for him. Our mum (mom) is a resident in a nursing home in Groton and when I hear the adverts and the whole program brings me right across there to my mum, brother and your CT lifestyle - how different to ours in the UK. I hardly get a chance to get over there to Groton, its years since my last visit, probably years till my next. Really appreciate your service - more than just music, a whole lifestyle without borders! Regards Andrew,

WE'RE LOOKING INTO INTEGRATING THAT CAPABILITY ON WNLC.COM. IF ANYONE ELSE WOULD LOVE TO SEE SONG TITLES ON OUR WEBSITE PLEASE POST IT HERE AND I'LL PASS IT ON. UNTIL THEN YOU CAN ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT SONG TITLES HERE, WE'LL BE GLAD TO HELP. THANKS JEANNINE!
